Our Inspiration

Standing atop one of the most breathtaking sites in Utah’s Zion National Park, the inspiration and purpose of Summit Ropes was formed as owners Amy and Dan envisioned how to recreate a unique, outdoor experience into a challenging, yet fun, indoor adventure. Finding motivation through their passion for the outdoors and quality family experiences, Amy and Dan started a new journey to provide a source of local adventure. After years of planning, Summit Ropes officially opened on January 18, 2019, in Sterling, VA, next to Dulles International Airport. 

“We are avid outdoors people. We have climbed some of the highest peaks in the United States, from Mount Whitney to Mount Rainier. We love to experience the outdoors and experience life. With the creation of Summit Ropes, we hope to bring these types of adventures to our community and to our children. While enjoying a fun indoor activity, Summit Ropes also requires people to make decisions, consider their path, plan ahead, and contemplate how much they are going to challenge themselves.”- Dan, Co-Owner 

Why is Summit Ropes such a unique experience? 

“The entire park is our own creation. From initial concept through design and now bringing our vision to life, we have been involved in every detail. With the creation of Summit Ropes, we hope to encourage a sense of adventure amongst our community and our children. We want to bring a unique experience to our town where people can have fun, socialize, be active, and feel a sense of community.” - Amy, Co-Owner 

In Zion National Park, there is a beautiful hike called Angel’s Landing – this is the inspiration behind Summit Ropes! The contrast of colors and warm, welcoming feeling of Zion National Park are represented throughout our facility, in our via ferrata climbing wall, and the on-course rock simulations used for bridges and obstacles. Our course is designed to accommodate a range of physical abilities and skill levels – no experience necessary! A visit to Summit Ropes Indoor Adventure could include scaling our 86-foot via ferrata wall or using the smart belay system to maneuver through exciting vertical obstacles such as a DNA Bridge, Twisted Net, Multi-log Berma and Leap of Faith. There is no right or wrong way to complete the course; it’s your decision and your definition of success as you “choose your own adventure” and have fun.

Summit Ropes Indoor Adventure brings the outdoors inside for year-round fun. Built and created in the heart of Loudoun County, Summit Ropes is designed to give children and adults rain-or-shine access to indoor fun and exhilarating adventure. At 16,550 square feet, our vibrant, multi-level facility is the largest indoor ropes course in the United States. Participants suit up in a full body climbing harness to explore over 120 obstacles, a truly unforgettable experience engaging both the mind and body.
